גיא נולד בחיפה בבית חולים רוטשילד ב 22.2.1964 הוא נולד בן בכור להורים המאושרים הדרה ויורם. הם גרו אז ברמות רמז שבחיפה.

 

לגן הראשון (גן שושי) הוא הלך בגיל שנתיים וחצי. לגן חובה (גן מרים)בגיל חמש וחצי, שם למד על הטבע, הפרחים ובעלי החיים. גננת זו השפיעה מאוד על אהבתו לטבע, לפרחים ולבעלי החיים.

בגיל 5 נולדה לגיא אחות בשם מור. כשהיה בכתה ד' נולדו לגיא שני אחים תאומים חמודים בשם עומר ושחר וגיא שהיה כבר בן 10 עזר מאוד בטיפול בהם. את כתה א' למד בבית ספר פיכמן ובסיומו הומלץ להקפיץ אותו כיתה. הוריו לא הסכימו וחשבו שעם מעברם לדירה בכרמל, בבית ספר אחר, יהיה לו שם אתגר ועניין. את כתה ב' למד בבית ספר הרצל בכרמליה ובסיומה לא נותר אלא להקפיץ אותו לכתה ד'. בכתה ד' עבר מבחנים למחוננים והשתתף בתכנית למחוננים בטכניון בערך 3 שנים. בכתה ה' הצטרף לשבט "צופית" והיה בו חניך עד כתה י', אז הפך למדריך והיה פעיל בצופים עד יב'.

מכתה ז' היה פעיל גם בצופי ים, שם התקדם בשליטתו במערכות הסירות, זאת עד כתה ט', שם סיים את עניינו בצופי ים. אז פנה לנושאי לימוד ניווט, סיירות וטיולים בארץ.

בתחום זה גיא נכנס עמוק לנושא הסנפלינג: ירידת מצוקים וטיפוס בחבלים. גם את חניכיו בצופים הדריך והוביל בתחום הטיולים בארץ.

 

על לימודיו בבית הספר יש מעט לציין מלבד עבודת הביוטופ בביולוגיה שבה גידל שמונה נחשים של זעמן מטבעות במשך שנה ובהרצאת הסיכום שלו ריתק את כל שומעיו.

 

עם סיום בית הספר התיכון, בגיל 17 היתה לו שנה פנוייה עד גיוסו והוא ניצל את הזמן לטיולים בסיני, את המדבר בסיני אהב גיא בעומק נפשו. תמיד סיפר על המשיכה שיש לו למדבר בכלל ולסיני במיוחד. בסיני הוא טייל ברגל, בסנפלינג, בג'יפ ועל גמלים. את סיני הכיר כאת כף ידו, הוא טייל לבד, עם בדואים ומצא ופרץ מסלולי טיול חדשים.

 

כבר מכתה ט' התחיל לדבר ולהתעניין איך להגיע לסיירת מטכ"ל. הוא עבר גיבוש לשייטת 13, טייס ומטכ"ל, בחר במטכ"ל והתגייס ל"יחידה" בפברואר 1982 לצוות יורם יצחקי. מסלול הצוות התארך בהרבה מהמסלול הרגיל, בין היתר בגלל מלחמת של"ג שפרצה ארבעה חודשים לאחר גיוסו. לקראת סוף המסלול (ספטמבר – אוקטובר 1983) הוחלט במפקדת היחידה שגיא יצא לקורס קצינים ויחזור לפקד על צוות. לשם כך, ובניגוד כמעט מוחלט לעקרונות היחידה יצא לקורס קצינים בתחילת אוקטובר 1983 כאשר הוא והצוות טרם סיימו את מסלול הלוחם. מסע הסמלים של הצוות התקיים בסוף נובמבר 83 ועל מנת לעמוד בסטנדרטים של "סיום תרגיל סמלים" של היחידה, נשלף גיא מקורס הקצינים לאחר שהיה בו רק 6 שבועות לצורך לימוד הצירים והמשימות בתרגיל וכמובן לצורך השתתפות בו. בסיום התרגיל, עם ירי מטח מחסנית הנותבים המסורתית, נורה גיא בשוגג ע"י חבר מהצוות ונפצע בשתי ידיו משמונה כדורים. לפני העלייה למצדה גיא החליף את המיקומים של רימון הזרחן והמצפן באפודו. המצפן הזה חטף קליע והציל את חייו.

 

חודש וחצי בבית החולים הדסה עין כרם, עבר כמה ניתוחים אורטופדים עד ניתוח סופי לקיבוע זרועותיו בעזרת פינים ומכשור שננעץ בעצמות הזרועות. האורטופד שטיפל בו אמר שאם יצליח להחזיק מצלמה בהמשך חייו זה יהיה בגדר נס...

 

הוא נכנס לתהליך החלמה ושיקום (שוחרר מהצבא עם פרופיל 24 – בלתי כשיר). לאחר חצי שנה, כשעומר בר לב נכנס לתפקידו כמפקד היחידה, קרא לגיא וביקש ממנו לחזור ליחידה. גיא הסכים וחזר ליחידה עם הברזלים נעוצים בזרועותיו. הוא חזר על תקן אפסנאי כי זה היה התקן היחידי שהתאים לפרופיל שלו. עד סוף 1985 גיא מפקד ומוביל מבצעים רבים.

​

בסוף 1985 הוא משתחרר ומחליט לנסוע לדוג באלסקה. הדייג באלסקה הקסים את גיא ובאותה תקופה הדייג נתן לו את האפשרות להרוויח הרבה כסף בזמן קצר. הוא הקפיד לנסוע לדוג באלסקה כל קייץ עד סוף שנות התשעים. זה היה "ניקוי הראש" שלו, עבד קשה, שעות רבות, ספג רוחות ומי מלח, ניקה את הראש.

 

את העונה המתה בדייג הוא ניצל לטיולים בדרום אמריקה, כשהוא רכוב על אופנועו המיתולוגי XR600 Honda.

בתקופת הטיול בדרום אמריקה עלה בליבו הרצון להמשיך וללמוד. הוא חזר לארץ, שיפר בגרויות (אנגלית ומתמטיקה) והתקבל לטכניון ללימודי הנדסת מכונות.

 

אחרי שנת לימודים אחת החליט שאינו רוצה להיות מהנדס אלא מנהל ועבר ללימודים בפקולטה לתעשייה וניהול. במשך לימודיו בטכניון הרחיב את ידיעותיו ע"י השתתפות בהרצאות בעוד שלוש פקולטות שונות בינהן הפקולטה לפיזיקה. עם סיום לימודיו בטכניון חבר לשני חברי ילדות וביחד פתחו מסעדה בכרמל בשם "תרנגול", במקביל גיא מבין שמבצעים אפשר לעשות רק כשאתה צעיר, לכן חזר  לשרת בצה"ל והתגייס ליחידה הטכנולוגית למחלקת האמצעים הטכניים שלה, שם שרת עד 1995, משם המשיך כפרויקטור על ליחידת מודיעין מבצעית שתרומתה לבטחון מדינת ישראל לא תסולא בפז. (בעקבות חזרתו לצבא מסעדת תרנגול שורדת רק 11 חודשים).

בשנת 1998 התמנה למשנה המבצעי של היחידה הטכנולוגית של חיל מודיעין וביחד עם טל דליאן שהיה מפקד היחידה הם מתאימים את המבנה והיכולות של היחידה לאתגריה החדשים: בזמן זה היחידה כמעט מכפילה את גודלה, מארבעה פרויקטים בשנה הם מצליחים להוציא 11 פרויקטים. בתקופה הזאת גיא מוביל את ההקמה של התחום שלימים יהפוך לבסיס של הסייבר של המודיעין הישראלי.

בשנת 2000 זכה בפרס ביטחון ישראל על פרוייקט פורץ דרך בתחום ביטחון המדינה.

בשנת 2002 קיבל את הפיקוד על היחידה.

בשנת 1998 גיא וברברה (ברבי) שהיו חברים טובים מגיל 15 ונשארו בקשר חברי לאורך כל השנים הפכו לזוג.

1999 נולד גב בתל אביב.

2000 נולד צוק בנוה מונוסון.

2001 נולדה מיקה בנוה מונוסון.

2003 נולד סוף בנוה מונוסון.

 

גיא השתחרר מהצבא ב 2004 ועבר לעבוד במועצה לביטחון לאומי, במטה ללוחמה בטרור. למרות שדובר במעבר מיחידת מודיעין טכנו-מבצעית לגוף מטה לאומי, גיא הסתגל מהר למעבר ובתקופה קצרה ביצע מהפך של ממש בתחום. תפקידו היה להקים גוף מטה שייזום ויכוון קידום טכנולוגיות לוט"ר בין משרדיות ברמה לאומית. במסגרת זו עסק רבות בנושא הגנת העורף מפני טילים. גיא פעל, כדרכו מהר, ביעילות ומקצועיות ובדרכו המיוחדת שילב יכולת מדהימה של לימוד עצמי ויחסי אנוש מיוחדים. שם החל להגיע לארועים בלבוש המסורתי: כפכפים וחליפות יוקרה.

​

עם סיום עבודתו במועצה לביטחון לאומי הצטרף לקרן הון סיכון Star Ventures . בתקופה זו השקיע מטעם סטאר והיה חבר במועצת המנהלים של Vidyo, Aeroscout ועוד מספר חברות. כשותף ב"סטאר" הביא גיא לידי ביטוי את הבנתו ויכולותיו הפנומנליות בתחומים טכנולוגיים מגוונים ביכולת לאתר, לזהות ולפתח השקעות מוצלחות. במקביל לעבודתו בסטאר הקים גיא את חברת SolarEdge.

​

בשנת 2006 הקים עם יואב גלין, ליאור הנדלסמן, מאיר אדסט ועמיר פישלוב (שותפיו לעבודה ביחידה הטכנולוגית) את SolarEdge– חברת היטק העוסקת בפיתוח וייצור מערכות למיצוי ההספק של מתקני אנרגיה סולארית. הוא כיהן כמנכ"ל ויושב ראש מועצת המנהלים. בשנת 2015 הונפקה החברה בבורסת הנסד"ק תחת שווי מוערך של 685 מליון דולר. בדצמבר 2019 שוויה הוערך כבר ב – 4.6 מיליארד.

SolarEdge היתה "הילד החמישי" של גיא. הוא הקים אותה מאפס וגידל אותה באדיקות, במסירות, בחריצות ובתבונה במשך 13 שנים. עד היום האחרון בו היה בהכרה עבד, ניהל, יזם ודחף קדימה ולמעלה.

במקביל לעבודתו האינטנסיבית הצליח תמיד לייצר זמן להיות בעל ואב אוהב. אחת לשנה הקפיד לקחת חודש חופש ולטייל עם המשפחה לחו"ל, לפעמים באירופה ברכב הסינכרו שאתו דיגם ולפעמים בטיולים רגליים בסיני. את אהבתו לאופנועים הנחיל לילדיו ואהבה זו התפתחה לרכיבה תחרותית בארץ ובחו"ל. הוא ליווה את ילדיו בכל מירוצי האופנועים בארץ ובחו"ל כשהוא פותר בעיות טכניות, מנטליות, לוגיסטיות שצצו לאורך המירוץ.

 

בנומבר 2017 התגלה אצלו סרטן המעי הגס. הוא התייחס לסרטן כאל עוד פרויקט שצריך לטפל בו. הוא נלחם בחריצות, באגריסיביות, במסירות, באדיקות הכל כך אופיינית לו. הוא לא נתן לסרטן להפריע לו, לא לנהל את סולאראדג' ולא לבלות זמן עם משפחתו. הוא ישב בישיבה בסולאראדג יום לפני שהפסיק לתקשר עם הסובבים אותו ושבועיים קודם לכן ליווה את מיקה וסופי בתחרות הרומניקס הקשה והמאתגרת. ב 25 באוגוסט 2019 נפטר בביתו כשהוא מוקף במשפחתו שהיתה לצידו עד נשימתו האחרונה.

Guy was born in Haifa at the Rothschild Hospital on February 22, 1964. He was the first child of his elated parents Hadara and Yoram, who lived in Ramat Remez at that time.

Guy’s started kindergarten (Gan Shoshi) when he was  two and a half years old. At the age of five and a half he joined Preschool (Miriam), where he was first introduced to nature, flowers and animals, which  influenced his life-long love of these subjects.

At the age of 5, Guy’s sister Mor was born.  When he was in fourth grade, his cute twin brothers Omer and Shachar were born. Guy who was already 10 years old was very helpful in caring for  them.

​

Guy’s first grade was at the Fichman school that recommended he should skip a class. His parents declined, hoping that their relocation to a new apartment and school on the Carmel would sufficiently challenge Guy and provide him with more interest.

​

Guy attended second grade at the Herzl school in Carmelia and was sent straight to fourth grade after that. In the fourth grade, he was selected by the exceptionally gifted children’s program at the Technion and took courses there for about 3 years. In the fifth grade, he joined the Scouts of "Shevet Tzofit", and became a group leader in the 10th grade and remained active in the Scouts until the 12th grade.

​

 Guy was also active in Sea Scouts from the 7th to 9th grades, where he was introduced to and developed  his naval knowledge and skills. After that he shifted his focus to hiking and improving his navigation skills.

​

Guy subsequently developed a deep interest and became an expert in abseiling and rock climbing. He then used these newly acquired skills when leading  Scout trips and journeys throughout Israel.

​

Guy’s high school academics took the “back burner” apart from his biology thesis (Biotop) raising eight coin-marked snakes (Coluber), which he summarized in a fascinating presentation and lecture.

​

Due to skipping a class Guy completed his high school education one year early and had a free year. He always expressed his fascination and love for the desert, but his soul was specifically connected to the Sinai desert.     Guy traveled Sinai on foot, driving SUV’s, abseiling, and riding camels. He traveled alone and with Bedouins, pioneered and discovered new trails.

​

Guy developed an interest in the Israel military “Sayeret Matkal” (the Unit) and defined a goal to join it already in the 9th grade. Upon enlisting in the IDF, he successfully passed the rigorous screening of “Shayetet 13” (the Israeli Navy Seals), pilot training of the Israeli Air-Force, as well as “Sayeret Matkal”. He chose and joined the Unit’s crew under Yoram Yitzhaki in February 1982. This special forces training extended longer than usual and lingered partially due to the First-1982 Lebanon war that started in June, four months after Guy enlisted. Guy was selected as a future commander in the Unit and was unorthodoxly sent to the Officer Academy by the Unit’s command before completing his Special Forces training course. Shortly after starting the Officer Academy course, at the end of November 1983, Guy rejoined Yoram’s crew for the final drill of the training course “Masa Smalim”. At the final drill completion ceremony on Masada, during the traditional shooting of the tracer bullets magazine, Guy was accidently shot by one of his teammates and was hit by eight bullets in both hands. Miraculously, just prior to the final ascent to Masada, Guy switched places in his chest pouches of one of his grenades with his compass.  By switching the sides, his compass took a bullet, possibly saving his life and most-likely prevented an unimaginable large-scale tragedy.

Guy spent 6 weeks in Hadassah Medical Center, had several surgeries, and a final one using metal pins as external fixators to stabilize the bones in his arms. The orthopedic surgeon treating him said it would take a miracle for him to ever hold a camera again.

Guy started a six months rehabilitation process. When Omer Bar-Lev took his position as the new commander of the Unit, he asked Guy to consider returning to active duty. Guy accepted and resumed his service with the metal pins still sticking out of his arms. He resumed full special forces duty hidden in an administrative role title; the only one allowed by his medical condition and profile.

​

Until the end of 1985, Guy lead and commanded multiple of the Unit’s projects and operations.

​

At the end of 1985, Guy left the army and decided to go fishing in Alaska. At that time, fishing in Alaska allowed him to earn large sums of money over a short period of time. Guy diligently continued to fish in Alaska every summer until the late 90s. This was his “down time”; he worked hard for long hours, soaked up the sea salt and winds and cleared his head.

​

During the slow season in Alaska, he traveled to South America riding his mythological 600XR Honda motorcycle.

​

In South America Guy discovered the need for more education. He returned to Israel, retook and improved his English and Math matriculation exams and was accepted to the Technion’s Machine Engineering Faculty. After one year he decided that he did not want to be an engineer but a manager and switched to Engineering and Industrial Management and completed his degree at the Technion by majoring in multiple subjects in different faculties, including a major in physics.

​

After graduation, Guy, joined by two friends opened a restaurant-“Tarnegol” (the Rooster). Guy also felt the urge to resume active duty in the army, and he joined the technical unit and served there until 1995. He then joined another operational intelligence unit with immeasurable contribution to Israeli security as a project manager. The Rooster restaurant suffered from Guy’s multiple occupations and activities and closed after 11 months.

In 1998, Guy joined the technical unit as the operational deputy to Tal Dilian.  Together they both revamped, modernized and prepared the unit for the rising new technological challenges. They almost doubled the number of people in the unit and accelerated its productivity from four to eleven annual projects and operations. During these days Guy lead the development of the field later known as the Israeli Cyber.

In 2000 Guy received the Israeli Decoration for National Security (Prass Bitachon Israel) for a revolutionary breakthrough contribution to Israeli security

In 2002 Guy was named as the commander of technical unit.

In 1998 Guy and Barbara Friedman (Barbie) became a couple after being buddies and traveling partners for 15 years.

In 1999 Gev was born in Tel Aviv.

In 2000 Tzuk was born in Neve Monoson.

In 2001 Mica was born in Neve Monoson.

In 2003 Suff was born in Neve Monoson.

In 2004 Guy left the army service and joined the anti-terrorist division of the National Security Council. Despite the sharp contrast and transition from an army technological-operational unit to a national council body, Guy quickly adjusted and over a short period of time revolutionized the field. His goal was to develop a national level multi-disciplinary anti-terrorist response. Guy played a significant role in Israel’s anti-missile defense system development. Guy operated in this role in his typical quick, efficient, and professional manner, combining his unbelievable autodidactive capabilities with his unique interpersonal skills. It was in this role that Guy developed his trademark dress code combining expensive suits and flip flops.

​

After completing his role with Israeli National Council, Guy Joined Star Ventures. During these days he invested for Star and was on the board of Vidyo, Aeroscout and several other companies.

​

As a partner in Star, Guy proved his deep and phenomenal knowledge and understanding in a variety of technological fields, and the ability to identify, detect and develop successful investments. Guy founded SolarEdge during his years working for Star Ventures.

In 2006, Guy cofounded SolarEdge with a group of coworkers from the technical unit; Yoav Galin, Lior Handelsman, Meir Adest, and Amir Fishelov. SolarEdge is a provider and producer of power optimizer, solar inverter and monitoring systems for photovoltaic arrays. Guy operated as the CEO and the chairman of the board. The company became NASDAQ publicly traded in 2015 for the value of $685 Million Dollars.  At the end of 2019, SolarEdge estimated value is $4.6 Billion Dollars.

​

SolarEdge was Guy’s “fifth child”. He raised it from scratch with hard work, dedication, intensity and wisdom for 13 years. Until his last day of clarity, Guy continued to initiate, manage, and push the company forward and upwards.

​

Despite his hectic work schedule, Guy always succeeded to dedicate and spend quality time with his family and be a great father and the loving husband that he was. Without failure, he took a month off every year with his family traveling in Europe in his self-concocted VW Syncro or walking the mountain trails of Sinai. He instilled his love for motorcycling riding to his kids, who all became competitive riders in Israel and abroad. He always accompanied them in their riding competitions operating as a technical, mechanical and mental support and solving any logistical problem popping up along the way.

​

Guy was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2017. He approached his cancer as one more problem he had to solve, or one more project to accomplish and complete. He battled his cancer in his typical way: diligently, aggressively and assertively. He did not allow his illness to interfere or come between his work and management of SolarEdge or his quality time with his family. He still led a meeting at SolarEdge one day before he lost communication with his surroundings and just two weeks prior to that, he accompanied Mica and Suff in the extremely difficult and challenging Romaniacs competition.

​

Guy passed away on August 25, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his loving family at his bedside until his very last breath.
